The African Queen is a book about a lady named Rose and a man named Charlie who drive a boat (called a steamboat) down a river in Africa. They are trying to get to a place where they can sink a big boat that belongs to some bad guys.
The bad guys are Germans and they are stopping other boats from going down the river. Rose and Charlie want to stop them so they can help other people go down the river.
They have a lot of adventures on the way, like going down a waterfall and getting chased by a hippopotamus. They also get sick from the bad water they are drinking and have to find medicine to make themselves better.
In the end, they get to the place where they can sink the bad guys' boat, and they do it! They have saved the day and helped other people travel down the river.
