ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

The Constitution is not a suicide pact

Okay, let me explain this to you like you're five.

The Constitution is like the rules of a game we all play together in our country. Just like when you play a game with your friends, there are rules you have to follow to make sure everyone plays fair and no one gets hurt.

But sometimes, there might be a problem where we need to protect ourselves and our country, even if it means bending the rules a little bit. And that's where the idea comes in that "the Constitution is not a suicide pact."

This means that while we always have to follow the rules of the Constitution, we also have to make sure we are keeping ourselves safe and protected. So, if there is a situation where following the rules exactly would put us in danger or harm, then we might have to do something different to stay safe, even if it's not explicitly written in the Constitution.

So, in a way, it's like the Constitution is important, but our safety and well-being is even more important, and we have to balance the two.
