The Cuba Libre Story
Once upon a time, there was a man named Captain Teddy Roosevelt who lived a long time ago. He was fighting in a big war in a country called, “Cuba.” After a long and hard day, he was feeling really thirsty and asked one of his soldiers to get him something to drink.
The soldier found a bottle of cola and some limes and mixed them together in a glass. Captain Teddy tried the drink and loved it! He asked the soldier what it was, and the soldier said, “It’s a Cuba Libre, Sir!”
Captain Teddy shared the drink with his friends, and everyone loved it so much, that they kept drinking it each day. And after they won the big war in Cuba, Captain Teddy and his friends went back to their own country and started sharing this new drink with everyone. That’s why we still drink Cuba Libres today in honor of Captain Teddy!
