ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

The Hydrographic Society of America

The Hydrographic Society of America is a group of grown-ups who really like maps and water. They learn all about the ocean and rivers and lakes so that they can help make really cool maps called "hydrographic charts." These charts show where things are in the water and how deep it is. They also help people who work in the water, like fishermen and sailors, stay safe and know where they are going. The Hydrographic Society of America helps these map-makers talk to each other and learn from each other so that they can make even better maps. And sometimes they have big meetings where they all get together and show off their maps and talk about how cool the water is!
