The Lord's Prayer
Okay kiddo, have you heard of something called the Lord's Prayer? It's a prayer that people all around the world say when they are talking to God. Let me explain it to you like you're five.
There are six parts to the Lord's Prayer, and each one is like a different thing we want to say to God. The first part goes like this:
"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name."
This means that we are talking to God, and we're saying that we think He is very special and holy. We also call Him our Father, because He loves us like a parent loves a child.
The second part is like this:
"Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
This part is about how we want God to rule over everything, just like He does in heaven. We want things on earth to be as good as they are in heaven, and we want to do what God wants us to do.
The third part is about what we need:
"Give us this day our daily bread."
This means that we're asking God to give us what we need to live each day, like food, water, and shelter. We're also reminding ourselves that God takes care of us.
The fourth part is about forgiveness:
"And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us."
This part is about how we ask God to forgive us when we do something wrong, like when we hurt someone's feelings, or when we break a promise. We also promise to forgive other people when they do something wrong to us.
The fifth part is about asking God to keep us safe:
"And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."
This means that we're asking God to help us make good choices and not do things that are wrong. We're also asking Him to protect us from bad things that might happen.
The sixth and final part is like this:
"For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen."
This is like saying goodbye and reminding ourselves that God is really great and powerful, and we want to always remember that. We say "Amen" to show that we believe everything we just said in the prayer.
