ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

The Nurse Practitioner: The American Journal of Primary Healthcare

A nurse practitioner is like a special nurse who has extra training to help people with their health. They work in a doctor's office or clinic just like a regular nurse or doctor. But they can do more things than a regular nurse can. They can give you a check-up, take your temperature, listen to your heart with a stethoscope, and even prescribe medicine if you need it.

A nurse practitioner goes to school for a long time to learn about all the different parts of the body and how they work. They also learn about medicines and how to help people feel better. And they learn how to talk to patients and make sure they understand what is happening with their health.

If you ever need to go see a doctor, you might see a nurse practitioner instead. They are good at taking care of people and making sure they feel better!
