The One-Straw Revolution

Once upon a time, there was a farmer called Masanobu Fukuoka in Japan who realized that planting a lot of different things all together and not using any chemicals made his plants healthier and his farming easier. Why? Because the different plants helped each other grow and did not need any help from humans to protect them from pests and diseases.

He also noticed that leaving straw (the dry stalks left over after harvesting plants) on the ground instead of removing it helped to keep the soil healthy and moist, and that way he didn't need to water his plants as much. Plus, the straw also decayed and provided nutrients for the next crop.

People started calling this farming technique "Natural Farming" or "The One-Straw Revolution" because all he used was one straw to cover the seed, instead of the usual method of plowing and tilling the soil to cover it.

With his method, Masanobu's crops were still successful, his soil was much healthier, he didn't have to work as hard, and he saved a lot of money too. He wrote a book about his experience called "The One-Straw Revolution" to teach other farmers around the world this technique, so they could also improve their farming and take care of the environment.
