ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

The Righteous Mind

The righteous mind is like a superhero power that helps us make decisions and decide what is right and wrong. It's kind of like having a compass in our brains that tells us which direction to go in.

Imagine you are walking in a forest and you come across a big spider. Your brain might say "that spider is scary" and tell you to stay away from it. That's your righteous mind helping you make a decision to keep yourself safe.

The righteous mind is made up of different parts that work together, kind of like a team of superheroes. One part is called "care/harm" which makes us care about other people's feelings and safety. Another part is called "fairness/cheating" which helps us understand what is fair and not fair. And there are more parts too, like "loyalty/betrayal" and "authority/subversion."

Sometimes people have different ideas about what is right and wrong because their righteous minds work a little bit differently. It's important to try and understand other people's righteous minds so we can work together and make the world a better place.
