ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things

Imagine you are at a playground with your friends. There are some things you should do, like share your toys and be nice to your friends. But there are also some things you should never do, like hit someone, take someone's toy without asking, or tell a lie. If you do these things, you are doing something called a "sin."

Now imagine there are seven really big sins that people can do. These are called the "seven deadly sins," and they are: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth.

Pride means thinking you are better than everyone else and not being humble. Greed means wanting more and more things for yourself without thinking about others. Lust means wanting to do things that are not good for your body or your mind. Envy means feeling jealous of what other people have that you don't. Gluttony means eating or drinking too much, even when you know it's not good for you. Wrath means getting really angry and wanting to hurt someone. Sloth means being lazy and not doing things you should be doing.

When people do these seven deadly sins, they are not being good people and can hurt themselves or others. But, there are also four things that happen to everyone when they die, whether they are good or bad. These are called the "four last things," and they are: death, judgment, heaven, and hell.

Death means when your body stops working and you can't live anymore. This happens to everyone eventually. Judgment means when you are judged by God for the things you did in your life, both good and bad. Depending on how you lived your life, you will either go to heaven or hell. Heaven is a wonderful place where you will be very happy and surrounded by good people. Hell is a very bad place where you will be very sad and surrounded by bad people.

So, it's important to remember to always try to do good things and not do the seven deadly sins, so that when you die, you will go to heaven and be very happy.
