When you have a toy, you don't want other kids to take it and say it's their own. The same thing happens with ideas called patents, which are like rules for making things. Sometimes, two companies will have a disagreement about who really came up with an idea first.
The Yankee Candle company and the New England Candle company were like two kids fighting over a toy. They both made candles that smelled really good and looked nice too.
