ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Theft of fire

Long, long ago when people did not have access to fire, they used to eat raw food, which made them sick sometimes. One day, a lightning bolt struck a tree and it caught fire. People saw the fire and realized that it can be very useful to them. They learned to cook food and stay warm.

But the problem was that they did not know how to create fire themselves, and they had to wait for lightning to strike. That's when a creature named Prometheus saw people struggling with fire and decided to help them out. He went up to Mount Olympus, where the gods lived and stole fire from them, and he brought it down to the humans.

When the gods found out that fire had been stolen, they were really angry, but it was too late. Prometheus had already given fire to the humans. The gods punished Prometheus for his act of theft, but the humans were very grateful to him because they could now have fire whenever they needed.

So, that's the story of how Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to humans. It's important to remember that stealing is not a good thing, but sometimes, in the past, people did things that they believed were necessary to help others.
