ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Theranos

Theranos was a company that promised to make blood tests easier and cheaper by using only a tiny amount of blood from a finger prick, instead of drawing blood from a vein using a needle. They claimed to have developed a machine called Edison which could run hundreds of tests on this tiny amount of blood.

However, it was found out later that the Edison machine was not reliable and gave inaccurate results. The company also used traditional blood testing machines by other companies to test samples, which made their claims about using a tiny amount of blood not true.

The founder of Theranos, Elizabeth Holmes, was charged with fraud for misleading investors and customers about the accuracy of their machines and the amount of blood required for testing.

In simpler terms, Theranos was a company that promised to make getting blood tests easy and simple, but they were not able to deliver on their promises and the founder got in trouble for lying about it.
