Thermal vacuum chamber

Do you know how your mommy puts your soup in a bowl and then heats it up in the microwave so that it becomes nice and warm for you to eat?

Well, just like that, scientists and engineers also work with things that need to be heated or cooled in a special room called a thermal vacuum chamber.

This special room is like a really big shiny metal box where scientists can control the temperature, pressure and air inside it. It is called a thermal vacuum chamber because it keeps things at a constant temperature and removes all the air from inside it just like space outside of the Earth.

Scientists use this room to test things like satellites, spacesuits, and rockets before they send them to space.

Just like how you put soup in a bowl, scientists put their things to be tested inside the thermal vacuum chamber. Then they can start changing the temperature and the air inside the chamber to see how the things react in space-like conditions.

This special room helps scientists and engineers make sure that everything they send to space can survive in the different temperatures and pressures and can work perfectly in zero-gravity conditions.
