ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Thermochemistry

Thermochemistry is a fancy way of saying that we can measure how much heat is involved in different chemical reactions. It's like when you put ice cubes in a glass of water - the ice cubes start to melt and the water gets colder. Thermochemistry tells us how much heat (or energy) is absorbed or released during this process.

When we study thermochemistry, we can learn about things like how much heat is produced when we burn a piece of wood, or how much heat is needed to make ice cream freeze. We use units like joules and calories to measure heat energy, and we talk about things like enthalpy and entropy.

Basically, by studying thermochemistry, we can better understand how different chemical reactions work and how they impact our everyday lives.
