ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Thermodynamic beta

Thermodynamic beta is a special number that helps us understand how energy works. Imagine you and your friends are playing with a ball. You throw the ball to your friend, and they throw it back to you. This is like energy moving around.

Now, if you want to understand how easy or hard it is for the ball to move around, you can use a number called friction. Friction tells you if the ball will roll smoothly or if it will be hard to roll.

Thermodynamic beta is a little bit like friction, but it helps us with energy instead of the ball. The bigger the thermodynamic beta number, the easier it is for energy to move around. This means that if you have a hot drink and you pour it into a cold glass, the heat energy will quickly move from the drink to the glass because the beta number is high.

But if the beta number is low, like in a vacuum or outer space, energy will have a harder time moving around. This is why space can be very cold even though there are lots of stars in it.

Overall, thermodynamic beta is an important number that helps us understand how energy moves and behaves in different situations.
