ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Thermodynamic free energy

Thermodynamic free energy is like a type of energy that can be used to measure how much energy something has. It can be thought of as stored energy that can be used to do work. Think of it like a battery in a toy car – it has a certain amount of energy stored inside of it and when the car is running, it will get its energy from that battery. Thermodynamic free energy is a way to measure how much energy something has stored inside of it, so we can know how much energy it can provide us with.
