Thomas Chatterton
Thomas Chatterton was a very clever boy who lived a long time ago in England. When he was little, he loved to read and write stories and poems. Even though his family was very poor, his mom taught him how to read and write, and he became very good at it.
When he was a teenager, Thomas started to write these things called "Rowley Poems." He made them up himself and pretended that they were really old poems from a long time ago. He did this because he wanted people to notice his writing and think he was very talented.
Some people believe that Thomas might have even tricked famous writers into thinking his Rowley Poems were real. But eventually, people found out that he made them up, so Thomas got very sad.
Sadly, Thomas didn't have many friends and he was very lonely. He couldn't make enough money as a writer to support himself, so he became very sad and depressed.
Sadly, when he was only 17 years old, Thomas took his own life by taking poison. This is a very sad story because Thomas was a very talented writer, but he didn't always have the support he needed to be successful, and he felt very alone.
