ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Time from NPL

Okay, so there's a place in England called the National Physical Laboratory, or NPL for short. They have a bunch of really, really, really fancy clocks that are super duper accurate. I mean, they can tell time down to a teeny tiny fraction of a second.

Now, since these clocks are so accurate, they use them to help other people figure out what time it is. They send a special signal from the NPL to places all over the world. When your phone or computer gets this signal, it adjusts the time to be exactly the same as the super accurate clocks at the NPL. So now, no matter where you are in the world, you can be sure that your clock is telling you the right time!
