ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Time sharing

Do you know how sometimes you and your friends want to play with the same toy? Instead of giving it to just one person and making the others wait, you take turns playing with it. Time sharing is kind of like that, but with a computer!

When a lot of people want to use a computer at the same time, it can get really confusing and messy if everyone tries to use it all at once. Time sharing helps to prevent that by letting people take turns using the computer.

It works like this: the computer divides up its time into little pieces, and each person gets to use it for a set amount of time during that piece. When their time is up, the computer gives the next person a turn. This keeps going until everyone has had a chance to use the computer for a certain amount of time.

Time sharing is really helpful because it makes sure that everyone who needs to use the computer can do it without having to wait in line or fight over who gets to go first. It also helps the computer run more smoothly, since it's not trying to do too many things at once.

Overall, time sharing is just a fancy way of saying "taking turns" with a computer so that everyone gets a chance to use it.
