ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Timeline of Goan history

Hey there kiddo! So, a long, long time ago, before you or I were even born, there was a place called Goa. People have been living there for thousands of years!

So, around 10,000 BC, people started living in Goa and they were called the Austric people. They would live in small groups and hunt animals for food.

Fast forward a few thousand years to around 300 BC, and Goa came under the rule of the Mauryan Empire. The Mauryans were super powerful and built a lot of cool buildings and things.

Then, around 1400 AD, the Bahmani Sultanate took over Goa, which was a Muslim empire. At this time, a lot of people in Goa were Hindu and so there was a lot of conflict between the Muslims and Hindus.

In the 1500s, the Portuguese arrived in Goa. They really liked it there and decided to stay. They built a lot of churches and other buildings that you can still see today!

For a long time, the Portuguese controlled Goa and the locals had to follow their rules. But in the 1960s, the Indian government wanted to take back control of Goa. They had a big fight and finally, in 1987, Goa became a full state in India.

And that's the timeline of Goan history! It's pretty cool to think about all the different people who have lived in Goa over the years.
