ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Timeline of agriculture and food technology

Agriculture and food technology are different ways of growing and preparing food. Agriculture is the process of growing food, such as fruits and vegetables, by planting seeds in the ground and then taking care of them (watering, weeding, etc.). Food technology is how we use technology to make food and prepare it for eating. This can include using machines to grind grains into flour, using a refrigerator to keep food fresh, or using a microwave to cook food.

Agriculture has been around for thousands of years. Ancient humans farmed food to feed their families and communities. As technology advanced, farming became more efficient and productive. New tools such as plows, irrigation systems, and fertilizers made it easier to grow more food.

Food technology has also been around for centuries. Ancient civilizations used mills to grind grains into flour. The invention of the icebox and canning in the 1800s enabled food to stay fresh for longer periods of time. In the 1900s, the invention of the microwave made it possible to cook food quickly and easily. Today, food technology continues to evolve with things like artificial food ingredients and genetically modified foods.
