ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Timeline of computing 2020–present

The timeline of computing 2020–present is a timeline that looks back at the changes that have happened to computers over the past few years. Computers, and the way we use them, have changed a lot since 2020.

In 2020, new laptops and desktop computers came out with faster processors, more memory and storage, and even more powerful graphics cards. At the same time, tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices became even more powerful and user-friendly.

In 2021, more and more people have started using cloud computing to store and access their data, documents and applications. This means that you can access your data from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection.

In 2022, artificial intelligence (AI) became more common. AI or "smart" devices can understand and respond to commands, take actions, and can even “think” for themselves.

In 2023, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) became even more popular and accessible. VR and AR headsets let you enter exciting and realistic virtual worlds, while AR technology adds digital content to the real world.

In 2024, wearable technology, like smart watches and fitness trackers, became even more advanced and popular. These devices can track your activity, remind you of events, give you access to your data, and even let you control other devices.

In 2025, quantum computing made a big appearance. Quantum computing can process data much faster than today's computers, and can open up new possibilities in industries like healthcare, finance, and security.

In the years since 2025, computing technology has also changed, with faster and better hardware, more powerful artificial intelligence and machine learning, and even new input devices like voice recognition and hand gestures. As computing technology continues to evolve and get more powerful, you can expect it to have a major impact in many areas.
