Timeline of role-playing games

Okay kiddo, you know how you like to play pretend games with your friends, like pretending to be a princess or a superhero? Well, there are games for grown-ups where they can pretend to be different characters too, and these are called role-playing games, or RPGs for short!

The very first RPGs were played with dice and paper, and they started way back in the 1970s. People would sit around a table and one person, called the "Game Master," would come up with a story for the other players to act out. They would use dice to help decide what happened in the story and to see if their characters succeeded or failed at things.

As time went on, RPGs got more popular and started to become more computer-based. In the 1980s, some popular RPG video games were made, like "The Bard's Tale" and "Dragon Quest." These games were played on computers or special gaming consoles.

In the 1990s, RPGs got even more advanced with the rise of the internet. People could now play RPGs with other players from all around the world using their computers. Some popular online RPGs were "EverQuest" and "Ultima Online."

Today, RPGs come in all sorts of forms. They are still played using dice and paper, but there are also video game RPGs, online RPGs, and even live-action role-playing games (where people dress up and act out their characters in real life). Some popular RPGs today include "Final Fantasy," "World of Warcraft," and "Dungeons & Dragons."

So, that's the timeline of RPGs, from the early days of dice and paper to the modern era of online and video games. Whether you're pretending to be a princess or a knight, there's an RPG out there for everyone!
