Timeline of the Muslim presence in the Iberian Peninsula

Okay kiddo, so a long time ago, there were people in a place called the Iberian Peninsula. They were living their own lives and had their own religions and ways of doing things. Then, some people who believed in a religion called Islam came into the Iberian Peninsula. This happened in the year 711.

These Muslim people were led by a man named Tariq ibn Ziyad, who was a general in the Arab army. They came from a place called North Africa and crossed over to the Iberian Peninsula through a place called Gibraltar. When they came, they fought against the people who were already there and won many battles.

After the Muslim people had won many battles, they started to build their own cities and towns. They named the area Al-Andalus and it became a place where Muslims, Christians and Jews all lived together. The people of Al-Andalus were very good at things like art, architecture, and science.

For a long time, the Muslims ruled over Al-Andalus and it became a very important place. But after about 700 years, things started to change. The Christian people who lived in the North of the Iberian Peninsula wanted to take back their land. They fought against the Muslim people for many years and finally, in the year 1492, they won.

Since then, there haven't been many Muslim people living in the Iberian Peninsula. But their presence and culture can still be seen in the buildings and art that they left behind.
