Timestamping (computing)

Timestamping is a way that computers can tell how long ago something happened. Put simply, it's like a digital time stamp that computers can read. For example, when you look at your computer and see the time, that time is a timestamp that the computer recognizes. With timestamping, computers can use timestamp numbers to keep track of how much time has passed since something happened. This helps to make sure that data is accurate and that events are recorded in the right order.
