ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Torah study

Okay kiddo, let's start with the Torah. The Torah is a very special book that teaches all about God and how to live a good and kind life. It has five important parts in it, called books, and they are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

Now, studying the Torah means to read and learn from it. People who are Jewish, which means they follow the Jewish religion, believe that studying the Torah is really important. They learn about the stories in it, the laws in it, and how to live a good life according to what it says.

Sometimes, people study the Torah alone, but often they study it with others, like in a group or with a teacher. They might also use special books to help them understand the Torah better called commentaries, which give more explanations about what the Torah is saying.

Studying the Torah isn't just about reading words on a page. It's about thinking deeply about what they mean and how they can help us live our lives as good people. So when people study the Torah, they are trying to learn more about God and how to be the best person they can be!
