ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Trace class

So, imagine you have a lot of crayons of different colors, let's say red, blue, green, and yellow. You can make a lot of pretty drawings with them, right?

Now, imagine you have some special crayons that have some extra properties. These special crayons are called "trace class crayons".

So, what makes these crayons so special? Well, when you use them to draw something, they leave a special trace, like a tiny line or a dot or some other pattern. These traces are really important because they tell you something about the drawing you made.

Trace class is like these special crayons. They are special kinds of mathematical objects that leave a trace when you do some calculations with them. And just like the traces of the crayons, these traces are really important because they tell you something about the calculations you made.

In fact, mathematicians can use these traces to help them solve all sorts of complicated problems. So trace class is a really useful thing to know about if you want to be a really good mathematician.
