Tracer-gas leak testing is like playing hide and seek with your nose. Imagine your nose is looking for a toy that is hiding somewhere in your room, and you need to find it. The same goes for finding leaks in things that are meant to hold gas or air, like pipes, tanks, or even vacuum-sealed bags. To do this, we use a gas that is specially designed to help us find the leaks. This gas, called a tracer gas, is kind of like a special scent you put on the toy so that your nose can find it easily.
When we perform tracer-gas leak testing, we first fill the object we want to test with the tracer gas. We then wait a little bit for the gas to spread out and fill the object completely. Then we start looking for the gas that leaks out by using a special test instrument. This instrument can "smell" the tracer gas, just like your nose can smell the special scent on the toy you're looking for.
Once we locate the spots where the gas is leaking out from, we can determine where the leaks are and take steps to fix them. It's kind of like playing a game of hide and seek, but with a very important purpose!
