Trail ethics are the rules to follow when you are hiking or walking on a trail so that everyone who uses the trail has a safe and enjoyable experience. Trail ethics can include picking up after yourself (disposing of any trash properly), following any local trail rules, and also being respectful to other people. For example, hiking on designated trails and not cutting switchbacks (trails that have turns in them) and not having a big group of people if you are on a narrow trail. Another example is to be considerate of other people and animals that you might meet on the trail. This can include allowing those who are running to have the right of way, not scaring animals along the trail, and not playing loud music.
