Trajan's Column

Okay kiddo, Trajan's Column is a really tall column in Rome that was built a long, long time ago. It was made to tell a story of a really important battle that a man named Trajan fought in.

The column itself is about 98 feet tall and has a spiral staircase inside that goes all the way to the top. On the outside of the column, there are lots and lots of pictures that tell the story of the battle.

These pictures are called "bas-reliefs" which basically means they are sculptures that are really flat. They are like a very long comic book that tells the story in detail.

The column is very important because it tells us about Roman history and culture. People can still go visit it today and even climb to the top to see a great view of Rome!
