ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Transfix

Imagine you are playing with a toy car that has tiny wheels. Now imagine sticking a big nail through the center of one of those wheels so that it can't move anymore. That's kind of what transfix means.

Transfix is a big word that means when something is stuck in place by something else being pushed through it. Just like the nail stops the toy car wheel from spinning, transfix means one thing is holding another thing still.

This can happen in many ways. For example, if you put a stick through a worm, the worm might be transfixed and unable to move. Or if you stapled some papers together, the staple might transfix the papers so they can't come apart.

So, transfix means when something is completely stopped by something else that is holding it in place.
