ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Transitional justice

Transitional justice is like learning to say sorry and making up after a fight.

When countries experience big changes like wars or political transitions, a lot of people can get hurt. Maybe some people were taken away from their families, some were put in prison, some were even killed.

Transitional justice is like the grown-ups in charge helping everyone make up and start playing nicely again.

They might help figure out who did bad things to people and punish them so they can’t do it again. They might help people tell their stories and feel heard. They might help people who got hurt get some help and support.

This helps make sure that everyone feels like they are being treated fairly and that justice is being done. It also helps make sure that countries can move on from the bad things that happened and start making positive changes for the future.
