Transplant rejection

Transplant rejection happens when your body's natural defense system, called the immune system, does not accept something that was put into your body, like a new organ. Your body sees the new organ as something that is not supposed to be there and tries to get rid of it. Your immune system starts sending special cells called antibodies to attack and destroy the new organ. This causes your body to reject the organ and can make you very sick.
