ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Transporter bridge

A transporter bridge is like a giant robot that helps people and things cross a river. It has a huge platform, kind of like a platform at a train station, that can hold cars, trucks, bikes, and even people walking.

The bridge has two towers on each side of the river with big cables that hold up the platform. The cables go up and over the towers like a giant jump rope.

When someone needs to cross the river, they drive onto the platform and wait for the bridge to start moving. The bridge moves by using a special machine, like an elevator, that pulls the platform across the river using the cables. This means that the platform moves up and down while it moves across the river.

When the bridge reaches the other side, the machine stops and lowers the platform back down to the ground so the people and cars can drive off.

Transporter bridges are really cool and not used very often anymore because there are other ways to cross rivers. But, they are still around in some places because they are historic and a fun way to travel across a river.
