Treadwheel

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a hamster running on a wheel in its cage? Well, a treadwheel is kinda like that, but bigger and humans use it to exercise or do work.

So, imagine a giant wooden wheel that's lying flat on the ground. You climb up onto a little platform on the side of the wheel and start walking or running on the steps, kind of like climbing stairs that never end. And as you walk or run, the wheel starts to turn around and around.

Now, back in the olden days, people would use treadwheels to do work like grinding grain or pumping water. Sometimes even animals like horses or donkeys would be used to turn the wheels instead of people.

But nowadays, treadmills have replaced treadwheels for exercise because they're a bit easier to use and don't require you to climb up onto a big wheel. So next time you see a hamster running around its wheel, you'll know that humans used to use treadwheels to do work and workout too. Cool, huh?
