ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tunnel junction

A tunnel junction is a type of electrical connection that allows electricity to travel between two objects without being directly connected, like a tunnel does. It works by having a thin layer of non-conductive material, like glass or plastic, between the two objects. This layer acts like a wall, preventing the electricity from crossing over, but it also allows the electrical current to 'tunnel' through it by passing through the microscopic empty spaces that exist between the atoms of the material. This allows electric current to flow from one object to the other, creating a connection even when the objects are not physically connected.
