Turkana boy is the nickname for a nearly complete skeleton of a young boy who lived in Africa around 1.5 million years ago.
So imagine, a very long time ago when people looked a little bit different than they do now, there was a boy who lived in Africa. He was named Turkana boy because he was found in the Turkana region of Kenya where scientists found his bones a long time later.
Turkana boy was different from the boys we see today. He was a member of a species called Homo erectus, which means "upright man". Homo erectus looked a bit like us but they were a lot taller and had bigger brains. They could also run a lot faster than people today. Imagine being super fast and tall like a giant!
The bones of Turkana boy are very special because they are so old and they are almost the entire skeleton of a child. This helps scientists understand how Homo erectus grew and developed as they got older. Scientists can learn things like how tall they got and when they might have learned to walk upright, which is what humans do when we walk on two feet instead of four.
Turkana boy's bones were found in the 1980s and since then, scientists have been studying him and learning more about what life was like for early humans. How cool is that!
