Turret (architecture)

Okay kiddo, a turret is a small tower-like structure that is often seen on castles, palaces, and other grand buildings. Sorta like a mini castle on top!

Usually, a turret is circular or polygonal (which means it has more than four sides, like a stop sign). It can have windows, and might have a little balcony or terrace at the top.

Even though they look cool and fancy, turrets were often included in buildings for practical reasons too. For example, they could be used to keep an eye out for enemies or just to get a better view of the surrounding area.

So in summary, a turret is like a tiny tower on top of a building, which was often used for watching out for trouble or just enjoying the view!
