ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Twin Tiers

Imagine you have two pieces of a cake. One piece is on top and the other piece is below. It's like having two layers of cake that are stuck together. Now, imagine if these two layers of cake were actually two different areas of land, kind of like two neighborhoods or cities. That's what we call the Twin Tiers.

The Twin Tiers refer to a region in the United States that includes parts of two different states, New York and Pennsylvania. These two areas are located right next to each other, just like those two layers of cake we talked about earlier.

To understand why it's called the Twin Tiers, you have to know what a tier is. A tier is like a layer or a level. So when we say Twin Tiers, it means two layers that are connected to each other. In this case, it's two layers of land.

The reason why these two areas are considered "twin" or similar is because they share a lot in common. People who live in the Twin Tiers often have similar cultures, history, and even things like the way they talk or their accents.

Even though the Twin Tiers region spans across two different states, it's like they're part of one big community because they are so close to each other. People often travel between these areas for work, school, or just to visit friends and family. It's kind of like having two neighborhoods that are so close, it feels like they are one big neighborhood.

So, when someone talks about the Twin Tiers, they are talking about the region that includes parts of both New York and Pennsylvania, where two layers of land are stuck together just like two layers of cake.
