ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Type III error

Type III error is when you decide something is not true, but it is actually true. This is different from Type I and Type II errors, which are about deciding something is true when it is not. Type III errors can happen when scientists, doctors or researchers try to prove something is true or false. For example, imagine a scientist does an experiment to see if eating oranges helps people to stay healthy. If the scientist decides that eating oranges does not help people, but it turns out that it actually does help people, then the scientist has made a Type III error.
