ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Type genus

Okay kiddo, so a type genus is like the special leader of a group of animals or plants. Think of it like a boss or a captain.

Scientists use type genus to help organize and classify different species of animals or plants. They look at all the different animals or plants that are similar and group them together. Then they pick one of the members of that group to be the leader or the "type genus".

So like if you have a group of dogs, scientists might pick a golden retriever to be the type genus because it shares a lot of similarities with other dogs in the group.

It's kind of like when you have a group of friends playing tag and you pick one person to be "it." That person becomes the leader of the game for a little while.

So basically, a type genus is just a special animal or plant that represents a whole group of similar animals or plants.
