Imagine you have a lot of different shapes for your drinking cups at home like some are tall and skinny while others are short and wide. Greeks also had different shapes for their cups and they used them to show off important things in their culture. They made them out of clay and painted beautiful pictures on them.
One shape is called an amphora, which is like a big jar with two handles and a skinny neck. They used this shape to store important things like wine or olive oil. Another shape is the kylix, which is like a fancy drinking cup with two handles and a wide lip. The Greeks would use the kylix to drink wine during special occasions like parties or religious ceremonies.
Another shape is the krater, which is a big bowl with two handles that they used to mix water and wine for big parties. It was like a big punch bowl for the Greeks! And yet another shape is the stamnos, which is like a pitcher with a wide mouth and one handle. They used this to pour things like water or wine.
These different shapes of vases were important to ancient Greeks because they could tell a story about their culture, what they believed in and how they celebrated. Through these vases, we can still see how the Greeks lived their lives and what was important to them.
