ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

US Supreme Court

The US Supreme Court is like the boss of all the other court judges in the country. They make really important decisions about the law and how it should be applied.

Think of it like when you and your friends can't agree on something, and you ask your mom or dad to be the boss and make the final decision. That's what the Supreme Court does for the whole country.

The Supreme Court has a very important job because their decisions can affect everyone in the country. They hear cases, or situations where people have a problem with the law or how it's being enforced, and then they make a decision that everyone has to follow.

There are nine judges on the Supreme Court, and they are called justices. They are very smart and have a lot of experience as lawyers and judges.

When a case comes to the Supreme Court, the justices first read and study all the information about it. Then, they ask questions and have debates with each other about what they think is the right decision.

Finally, they vote on what the final decision will be. If at least five justices agree on the decision, then that's what the law will be for everyone in the country.

So, the Supreme Court is like the big boss of all the other judges in the country. They make important decisions about the law and their decisions affect everyone. They are made up of nine really smart people who study, ask questions and have debates before they decide what the law should be.
