ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

US standard clothing size

Clothing size in the United States is a way to determine how big or small clothes should be so they fit properly on people.

Imagine you have a puzzle with different shapes and sizes. Now, imagine the shape and size of your body is one of those puzzle pieces. In order for the clothes to fit you correctly, they need to match the same shape and size as your body puzzle piece.

To help with this, the fashion industry has come up with a standard measurement chart that works like a ruler. The ruler is divided into numbers and letters that correspond to different sizes. For example, the numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, and so on represent different sizes for women's clothing.

Now, different brands might use slightly different measurements or may have their own unique sizing chart, but the goal is for the clothing to fit as comfortably as possible.

So when you shop for clothes in the United States, you will see these sizes on the tags or in the store, and you should try them on to see which size fits you best!
