ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ulama

Okay, so imagine you are playing a game with a lot of rules. You may have a hard time understanding all the rules by yourself, so you ask your parents, teacher or an adult for help, right?

In Islam, there are a lot of rules to follow, these rules come from the Quran (the holy book of Islam) and the Hadith (the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad). To understand these rules, Muslims ask for help from people who have studied the Quran and Hadith a lot. These people are called "ulama".

So, you can think of ulama like very smart and knowledgeable grown-ups who help Muslims understand the rules of Islam. They have studied for many years and know a lot about the Quran and Hadith, so they can give advice on how to do things in the right way according to Islamic teachings.
