Ultimate Breaks and Beats

Okay kiddo, have you ever listened to a cool song and then heard a part of that song that's just beats and sounds and it repeats over and over again? Those repeating parts are called "breaks".

A long, long time ago, in the 1970s, there were people called "DJs" who would play music at parties and dances. And they really liked these breaks. They found out that they could use two turntables to play two copies of the same record at the same time. And when they got to the cool break part, they would use the mixer to switch the sound from one turntable to the other. This was called "cutting" or "scratching".

So now they had all these cool breaks but it was hard to find enough records with good breaks on them. But then, in 1986, a group of people put together a collection of records called "Ultimate Breaks and Beats". They went through lots and lots of old records to find the best breaks and put them all on one record.

So now the DJs had a big collection of breaks they could use and they could mix them together to make their own cool music. This was the start of something called "hip-hop". It was all about mixing and scratching breaks to make new music. And that's how Ultimate Breaks and Beats helped create a whole new kind of music!
