ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ultra light displacement boat

Alright, kiddo, have you ever played with a toy boat in the bathtub? Well, boats can also be really big and used for traveling on water like the ocean! One type of boat is called an ultra light displacement boat.

Now, just like how you might choose to ride your bike instead of walking because it's faster, people use ultra light boats because they can go really fast on the water! But, to do that, they have to be very light so that they don't slow down.

Think about how heavy your toy boat would be if you added a bunch of rocks to it. It wouldn't be able to float very well, would it? It might even sink under the weight! So, for the ultra light boats, they try to use materials that are super light but also very strong so that it can still stay afloat and not break apart.

These boats also have a special shape to them that helps them move through the water. Imagine if your toy boat was shaped like a rock- it wouldn't move very easily, would it? But if it had a pointed front and was curved in the back, it might be easier to push and move through the water.

Overall, ultra light displacement boats are light, strong, and have a special shape to move quickly through the water. They're like speedy toy boats but way bigger and made for grown-ups!
