Umbrella term

An umbrella is a big thing that protects you from the rain. When it's raining, you open the umbrella and hold it above your head to stay dry. Now imagine that instead of raining, we're talking about different things that are all related in some way. Like animals, for example. There are lots of different types of animals, like dogs, cats, birds, and fish. But even though they're different, they're all still animals. That's kind of like an umbrella term. It's a big word that covers lots of different things that are all related in some way. So instead of saying "dogs, cats, birds, and fish," we can just say "animals" as an umbrella term to cover them all.
