ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Underwater photography

Underwater photography is when you take pictures or videos while being underwater. Imagine you are in a swimming pool, and you want to take a picture of the bottom of the pool, you do this by holding your breath and diving down with a camera. In the same way, people use cameras made especially for taking pictures underwater to capture beautiful pictures of the things that live underwater, like fish or coral reefs.

But taking pictures underwater can be difficult because water can make everything look blurry and blue. To avoid blurriness, underwater photographers use specialized cameras that can focus better underwater, like a diving mask. These cameras are also waterproof, so they can be submerged for long periods without getting damaged.

People can also use underwater FLASH and different light sources to make the images appear more lifelike. The type of light they use will depend on the depth, distance, and colors they want in the photo.

Underwater photography can be challenging because it can be tough to see what you are taking pictures of. The depth, amount of light, currents, and distance from the subject can all make it difficult to take good pictures. However, with the right equipment, practice, and patience, people can take beautiful images that show the beauty of the underwater world.
