Unicode Consortium

The Unicode Consortium is an organization that creates standards for the way different characters and symbols should be represented in computers. It is like an alphabet for computers. Just like in the English alphabet, different letters represent different sounds, in the Unicode alphabet, different characters represent different symbols. Unicode helps computers from different countries show the same thing on the screen no matter where it is. For example, a happy face on one computer will look the same as the same happy face on another computer no matter where they are located in the world.
